Studies on Several Hormone Responses Following Intravenous Alimentation

Abstract
Plasma insulin and human growth hormone ¢¥responses to intravenous alimentation were studied in healthy subjects.
The intravenous glucose administration led to decrease in insulin response as compared to oral administration, but the route of administration did not significantly affect glucose tolerance.
After intravenous amino acids, the insulin response fell more clearly, whereas growth hormone response somewhat increased.
Author discussed that in healthy subjects, no endocrinological problems arise when short-term parenteral nutrition are necessary, because above changes were not so wide.
Author also discussed that mechanism of decrease in insulin response following parenteral nutrition.
